What a week! Two Saturdays ago I ran in a small turkey trot at the Dominion Valley Country Club in Haymarket, Virginia. I did this to see approximately where I am fitness-wise, because I know that your first marathon is usually not indicative of your capabilities, it’s really just a trial. I anticipated I would finish somewhere between 22 and 23 minutes. That technically didn’t happen- what did happen was that I ran an extra 0.3 miles when I missed a sign that said “turn around” :D. So, I ended up finishing with 3.4 miles at exactly 25:00, but still somehow ended up as the second place overall female, and first place female in the 20-29 age group. My watch also detected a 5k PR of 22:50 somewhere within that 3.4, so in my head, that’s what I’m going with. I’m going to call this an “adult PR,” because I did run way faster when I was in high school (I think my fastest 5k was about 20:13), but I’m old now, and trying to get back into the swing of things.
Here’s me looking deceptively happy about 1 mile in:

The next week we flew out to Austin to be with Jason’s family for Thanksgiving, and ate lots of food. But we all know feeding the goats had me more excited than pumpkin pie.

Meanwhile, Mera got a week-long playdate at her favorite Aunt and Uncle’s house, where she didn’t get spoiled at ALL 😉

Lastly, today we are officially 16 weeks out from the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach! I am so excited to start actually training with such a stronger base than I had before. I loved marathon training so much and this race looks like so much fun! Stay tuned for updates as I document my progress 😀

I hope you have a wonderful week!
