Back to Texas… for the Weekend (and a collection of drinks)

This weekend we were back in Texas for a wedding! We flew into Austin on Wednesday afternoon, and I worked remotely Thursday and Friday while spending time with Jason’s family. Booking last minute flights to Austin during F1 weekend apparently wasn’t cheap so we had a connecting flight both ways… which meant more time for airport drinking and airport reading:

Apparently The Overstory is in my sister’s top ten (which if you know her, that’s really saying something!), and I can see why. It’s so well written and describes humankind’s relationship to nature so beautifully.

We stayed in an Airbnb by Canyon Lake with the groom’s family (Jason was a groomsman). We absolutely had so much fun at the wedding and rehearsal dinner. Apparently we came across as hustlers for being way too good at corn hole- honestly, that was the the first time I’ve been acknowledged for being good at a game. I don’t know what got into me.

I went out for a run on Saturday morning, hoping to get in a 3×8 min, 5×30 sec workout, but the Texas heat had other plans. I pretty much collapsed after the second 8 minute rep, and decided heck no to the rest :’). I also tried to get into a park by the lake, but they charged a $20 entry fee. Absolutely not but thanks though! Basically this run was a major fail, but luckily I got to curl up in bed and watch the new season of Our Planet afterwards 🙂

It was a quick turnaround and we were back to the airport the next morning for our flight back home. I was really looking for a kombucha but couldn’t find any, so I settled for a pre-flight Juiceland instead. This drink was called “The Percolator” and it was soo good! And caffeinated.

But of course, Jason’s a sweetheart and went to go find me one. He told me he picked the only flavor with words that he recognized.

We landed back in DC around 8pm, then picked up Mera from the dogsitter’s at 9. I was freezing in the thin shirt and jean shorts I wore on the plane, but that was shadowed by relief to be back in perfect fall running weather 🙂
